I am an exoskeleton of teenage nothingness waiting to shed my skin like one of those annoying cicadas. I wish I could hide up in the tree and my girl-skin would just fall off so I could emerge as a guy...Bugs have it so easy and they don't even know it.
Trina Sotira's e-book In Her Skin is the only YA novel with a transitioning teen in love with his Muslim best friend, both found, at one point in the story, riding plastic lawn deer. She teaches Creative Writing and Composition courses at College of DuPage. We tried to tell her that this photo is unprofessional, but she said "it's just me doing me." Who can argue with that?
